While every car manufacturer seemed to bring serious changes for this new decade, Chevrolet stood tall with its redesign on this popular body, stepping into the decade with bold style and street presence. Of course, playing that game back then also meant cubic inches, as GM was finally allowing over 400 CI installations into factory midsize models. To that end, installed here is a period- correct 454/360 HP Turbo-Jet big-block Chevrolet V-8 engine that was second only to its high-compression LS6 counterpart on the option sheets. It is equipped with the Cowl Induction system with a rubber hood seal and is well-detailed underhood. This is backed by an M22 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt Positraction rear end with 3.31 gears. This car is also equipped with both power steering and power front disc brakes. There is a further sense of premium appearance found here thanks to Cortez Silver paint with contrasting black stripes. The black convertible boot highlights the power top, which is equipped with a glass window, and trim equivalent to the SS level is visible throughout this car. Inside is a deluxe bucket-seat interior in black vinyl with a center console, Hurst floor shifter with white ball knob, tachometer, gauges package, radio and new carpeting, upholstery and door panels. Other upgrades done here include new front and rear suspension components, a new gas tank and lines, and new exhaust. It rolls on five-spoke chrome wheels and modern radial tires, and there is even a full-size spare in the trunk. The era of the 1970 Chevelle helped cement it into muscle car history as a premier contender. This redone convertible showcases much of what that excitement was about, even to this day.
